My Sea Odyssey Trip

I went on a field trip with my class this week to Santa Cruz. We sailed on a catamaran thanks to O'Neil Sea Odyssey, a special program that teaches kids about marine biology and ecology. I had a lot of fun and saw lots of sea animals. Visit http://oneillseaodyssey.org/about-the-program/ for more info about the program.

BOOK REVIEW: Stephen Carter and the Elementals

A normal boy named Stephen lives in a mining town. He and his friends have always played in the mining caves there, but after the caves get closed down they go in anyway. While hiding from his friends, something terrible happens to Stephen! His friends look for him, not knowing he's laying somewhere in the caves injured! Luckily a strange creature finds him and heals him. After that Stephen's life changes forever! When he returns home, he does not know he is about to become a hero! I found out about this book from my friend's aunt, who is friends with Dan Reynolds, the author of this book! She sent me an autographed copy! I really enjoyed the book. It was very detailed and the characters are very believable. I recommend this to most ages as long as you're patient with the book, because there can be slow scenes! I'd rate this book 4 out of 5 stars!

BOOK REVIEW: The Hunger Games

This book takes place in the future where North America is now Panem and the Capitol is surrounded by 12 districts. The capitol is where all the rich and powerful live and the farther away you are from the capitol the poorer you are. This is about a girl named Katniss who lives in district 12, the poorest of the districts. The book starts out with Katniss sneaking into the woods illegally and going hunting for food. Her family is poor, so she is forced to hunt. That day was the day of the reaping. This is when each year children from the ages of 12-18 are forced to put their names into a drawing. The announcer draws one boy and one girl from each district to have them compete in an arena called the Hunger Games, where everyone fights to the death! I love this book so much!! I was pulled in by the first chapter. The author, Suzanne Collins, puts so much detail that it almost feels like you're right there with the characters! This is the first book out of a trilogy. The second book is called Catching Fire and the third is called Mockingjay. (I'm reading Mockingjay now.) I was trying to get my mom to read it for the longest time because it was so good! Then she finally read it and now she's done with all 3 books! She said that she couldn't put it down and she would read every chance she got! (True story!) Now my mom and I are anxious to see the movie when it comes out March 23rd! This book keeps you on the edge of your seat. There were some pretty violent scenes so I would recommend that no one younger than 10 should read this. But you can always ask your parents if you want to read the book that bad! I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars!

Visit my mom's Hunger Games Movie Group on facebook. We're all looking forward to the film. It comes out on March 23.
